Year Six: The Age of Enlightenment
Your five-year-old can think for herself; she wants to know everything, and she can indeed be daring! This last year before your child embarks on her twelve-year mandatory educational cycle is a coming of age of sorts. In a few short years, your child has grown from a helpless infant to a capable child. The coming year is an exciting one in which your child’s ability to learn and remember will amaze you. In this hapter we will learn more about the processes that constitute human memory, and the remarkable role music can play in helping to consolidate our memories throughout life. We also will see how children in the sixth year are more equipped than ever before to benefit from exposure to other cultures, ways of thinking, and musical traditions—experiences that will help to make them not only more creative but also more empathetic, and perhaps even happier and more successful as well.
